Art After Hours Back in Full Swing
Those of you who joined us for our Warner Bros. send-off in September know that Art After Hours has returned following a highly successful inaugural season. Join us on Thursday, November 8 for Art After Hours: Thursday Night Lights, when we celebrate Art Nouveau with conversations about art, stained glass demonstrations, live music and performance. Partnership Program
We are pleased to announce that the Musuem’s Art After School partnership program has received funding for the 2007-2008 school year. Through the continued generosity of the Lebovitz Foundation and with new support from the Brook Lenfest Foundation, the Museum will offer four six-week sessions. For the past two years, the Museum has worked with the Roberto Clemente Charter School, and in 2006-2007 the program was expanded to include both Raub and Trexler middle schools from the Allentown School District.
The goal of this program is to increase youth participation and knowledge of the visual arts through after-school academic enrichment programming that meets the Pennsylvania Academic Standards in the Arts and Humanities and Literacy. It provides students with the opportunity to learn about art, culture, and museums through the interpretation of objects in the Museum’s collection. At the Museum, students explore artworks through viewing, discussion, in-gallery activities, and art projects. Additionally, they develop and increase their self-esteem and social interaction with peers and work in a safe, supportive, and welcoming learning environment that allows for diverse opinions, ideas, and creative outcomes. The program includes strategies for encouraging students to connect artworks to their own experiences and studies while building observational, critical thinking, literacy, and art-making skills.
