Multi-Visit Programs

Art Matters (Grades K to 12)
We’re excited to offer to all school districts and classroom teachers the unique opportunity to partner with the museum in planning a series of programs that will provide an academic enrichment experience for your students, and connect to the PA Academic Standards in all core subject areas, including the visual arts. Programs can be planned for a specific grade level in your school district or school, or for an individual classroom.

Together, the teacher and a museum educator will plan a series of two-, three-, or four- visit programs designed to respond to the district’s needs for enrichment programs, meet the daily state standards teachers are implementing in the classrooms in various subject areas, and provide a unique interactive experience in the museum environment. Visits will include exploring the museum’s collection and special exhibitions, and related hands-on art-making activities in the studio that reinforce their gallery experience.

Interactive lessons encourage all students with a variety of learning styles to participate in exploring works of art. Museum lessons are maximized through pre-visit and post-visit activities and classroom discussions. This process develops confidence, verbal and visual skills, and critical thinking. All lessons support literacy development, a core element of student learning, by encouraging students to read, speak, write, and listen.

Museum Studies at the Allentown Art Museum (Grades 8 to 12)
Be part of an exciting new program offered at the museum. Ever wonder what goes on behind the scenes at an art museum? This program exposes students to these working parts. Students will learn how an artwork becomes part of the collection and eventually gets hung on a gallery wall. Students have direct interaction with museum professionals who help explain the process of cataloging and conservation and how an exhibition is curated, planned, and presented. This program can be planned to fit your curriculum as a single visit or multi-visit series.

Arts Education in the Classroom (Grades K to 12)
Inspire with artist residencies for schools and community organizations! Imagine your students learning about jazz from a Grammy-nominated singer or painting from a nationally exhibited watercolorist! The Allentown Art Museum can help you make it happen!

As a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts (PCA) Arts-in-Education Partner serving Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon, Monroe, and Southern Pike Counties, the museum receives funding to help schools and community organizations bring in high-caliber rostered artists from the literary, performing, and visual arts to work with students in kindergarten to grade 12. These standards-based artist residencies are a great way to enrich student learning while providing a unique opportunity to work in-depth with accomplished artists.
