Civic Theatre film:  JEAN-MICHEL BASQUIAT: THE RADIANT CHILD

The Museum continues its partnership with Civic Theatre with this series of screenings in conjunction with A Collecting Spirit: Gifts of Paul Kania. Included are films about collectors and artists who have impacted the art world in different ways. Screenings begin at 7 p.m. at Civic Theatre, 527 North Nineteenth Street, Allentown. Tickets are $8 for Museum members and Civic members with ID, $10 general admission. Advanced sale available at CivicTheatre.com.

Tonight’s film is Jean-Michel Basquiat: The Radiant Child (2010) . Director Tamra Davis pays homage to her friend in this definitive documentary but also delves into Basquiat as an iconoclast. His dense, bebop-influenced neoexpressionist work emerged while minimalist, conceptual art was the fad; as a successful black artist, he was constantly confronted by racism and misconceptions.
