Final open studio with Anthony Viscardi

October 20 (Thursday)
Open studio with Anthony Viscardi
The Creativity Lab, Three City Center, 515 Hamilton Street, Allentown
6:30–8 p.m.

In preparation for his fall exhibition at the Museum—Shadow Landings: An Immersive Art Installation—artist Anthony Viscardi worked all summer on a monumental 3D mural in a street-level studio at 515 Hamilton Street, Allentown, called the Creativity Lab. To introduce the community to the project and to the Creativity Lab, the Museum has been hosting free monthly meet-and-greets with the artist on the third Thursday of each month, starting in July. Tonight, October 20, is the final open studio before the mural moves to the Museum. Attendees are invited afterward to enjoy an exclusive happy hour at grain restaurant, across the street from the Creativity Lab. Entry to the open studio is free. Discount drink tickets can be picked up at the Museum, at 31 North Fifth Street, and need to be validated at the Creativity Lab for use that evening; drink tickets are limited to the first fifty visitors each night.

The Creativity Lab is a partnership between the Allentown Art Museum and City Center Lehigh Valley.

Anthony Viscardi received full professorship in the Department of Art, Architecture, and Design at Lehigh University in 2007 and chaired the department from 2003 to 2010. He earned his Bachelor of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and a Masters of Architecture from Georgia Institute of Technology. He cofounded Hoss/Viscardi & Co. Architectural Design Firm in Atlanta, where he served as Partner and Principal Designer from 1979 until 1992. Throughout his career in architectural practice and as a professor of architecture, Viscardi has continued to work as an artist. He has had solo exhibitions at the Atlanta College of Art, Lehigh University’s Wilson Gallery, and Gallery 164 in Buffalo, NY, and has exhibited at Nexus Contemporary Art in Atlanta, Philadelphia University of the Arts, Philadelphia Third Street Art Gallery, Auburn University Frank Seltzer Gallery, Allentown Art Museum, and the Banana Factory Center for the Arts in Bethlehem.

Shadow Landings: An Immersive Art Installation (November 2, 2016–March 26, 2017) will build on the artist’s prior exploration of the shadow as a mapping of space and time and will allow visitors to become part of the work as their own shadows mingle with those created by the installation. It will be installed in Trexler Hall.
