Art Ways

In Art Ways, our children’s gallery and lounge, visitors will find maker stations, communal chalk wall, studio time, a conservation wall and instructions and materials for creating quick and easy art projects and you can take a selfie with our mascot Arty the Turtle!  Art Ways is a consistent favorite among visitors of all ages. This area is refreshed on a monthly basis and activities are available whenever the Museum is open.

Family Programs

Family programs provide both free and fee-based guided activities for families and community-based children’s organizations. These extracurricular activities include Art Ventures, Treasure Hunts, Scout Badge Fulfillment Events, literary and performing arts presentations.

ArtVentures

ArtVentures is a free, instructor-led art experience designed to guide families with preschool and elementary aged youth in an exploration of techniques and themes represented in the Museum’s temporary exhibitions and permanent collections.

ArtVentures occurs every Sunday in the Crayola Classroom on a walk-in basis. A Museum educator leads an art-making activity that teaches fundamental art concepts using a broad range of techniques and materials. The flexibility of this program allows families and groups with children of multiple ages and capabilities to participate at their own pace. Participants may choose to take the work home or leave it for display on one of the community boards, although many opt to make one for take-home and one for display.

For the learner that wants a more independent activity, the monthly Treasure Hunt worksheet encourages children to do a self-guided walk through the Museum’s galleries, after they are rewarded with a small prize. This quest to track down a featured artwork and closely inspect visual details encourages participants of all ages to respond to the collections and become familiar with our galleries.
