How to Host an Artist Residency

Step 1:
Think about:

  • what you want to accomplish during and as a result of the artist residency.
  • the long-term impact of the residency.
  • specific areas of your curriculum that could benefit from an artist in your classroom -social studies, math, literature, science, art, music, etc.

Browse through the listing of Directory artists and select an artist(s) that catches your interest and fits with your residency needs. If you need help selecting an artist, contact the AIE Manager at 610-432-4333, ext. 53 or aie@allentownartmuseum.org for recommendations.

Step 2:
Contact the artist of your choice to discuss:

  • residency ideas, topics, activities, and benefits.
  • artist availability.
  • artist fees.
  • materials for residency.
  • core groups.

Step 3:
Complete the Residency Funding Request Form (contact AIE Manager for assistance in completing this form.)

  • Fill out contact information
  • Complete budget section
  • Create artist narrative with the help of residency artist
  • Obtain requested signatures

Step 4:
Secure matching funds. Hosts are responsible for a 50% match of the artists' fees and travel. Please note that the 50% cash match from AAM is dependent upon sufficient grant funds from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts and is not guaranteed. Funding will be verified and your organization notified in July of 2008.
