Teacher Workshops
Teacher workshops introduce kindergarten- through university-level educators to works of art in the Museum’s collection, inquiry-based teaching methods, project ideas, and methods for subject integration. All teacher workshops are eligible for professional development credits for Pennsylvania (Act 48). Please ask about credit when scheduling your workshop.

Learning Through Art
During this workshop, educators will discover the important role the visual arts can play in enhancing classroom learning, especially in support of literacy development, and how to engage students in meaningful discussions and explorations of artworks. Through a series of in-gallery activities, learn how works of art can be used as a departure point for lessons in a variety of subject areas, and how they can play an important role throughout the lesson. Participants will gain new ideas for incorporating art into the classroom to help students think, read, speak, listen, and better understand the world in which they live. The program treats teachers as learners and is designed for both art specialists and classroom teachers in kindergarten–12th grade.

Custom Workshops for Teachers
Looking for something specialized? We can design a professional development workshop tailored to the needs of teachers from a single school, a group of teachers from a district, or a cross-section of teachers from an Intermediate Unit. Instruction may cover a single collection area in depth or explore a theme or art-based concept across the Museum’s collection. Workshop topics, formats, and fees vary depending on the request.

To discuss how we can meet your staff development needs, please call Lise Dubé-Scherr, Director of Education, at 610-432-4333, ext. 38.
