ALLENTOWN ART MUSEUM OF THE LEHIGH VALLEY HOSTS WINTER FAMILY FESTIVAL
The Museum Rocks with Family Festival on March 25, 2012
Allentown, Pa— The Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley rocked the day away during their annual Winter Family Festival on March 25, 2012. Part of the Museum’s Free Sundays program, the Winter festival was also sponsored by Capital Blue Cross, with performance support provided by The Bessie S. Graham Music Fund.
The Winter Family Festival: Shake Rattle and Roll was organized around the special exhibition, Who Shot Rock & Roll: A Photographic History, 1955 to the Present, currently on display at the Museum through May 13, 2012.
“This family festival was fun because it really bridged generations,” says Family and Community Programs Coordinator Jessica Gauthier. “Children had a blast dressing up and rocking out, while their parents got to relive their favorite moments in rock and roll history.”
Families flocked to the Museum for the Winter Festival, despite—or because of—the un-winter-like weather. Over 800 children, parents and art lovers enjoyed a day full of workshops, exhibits and entertainment.
Dave Fry performed two shows in the Museum’s auditorium, educating the young crowd with fun songs about the history of music. Andy Svrecek, as an Elvis impersonator, kept the galleries lively as he danced and sang in his “blue suede shoes”.
Sweet and Sassy of the Lehigh Valley supported the AAM’s Winter Festival through a donation of their time. Hip stylists arrived in style in the company’ signature pink limo to paint glitter tattoos and provide dress-up opportunities to young divas and rock stars in-training. There were plenty of art activities and crafts in the Crayola Learning Center, including making swag bags and tambourines. Parents and children got their pictures taken on the red carpet, posing like rock stars.
