Cocktails & Collecting art sales help fund education programs

On the evening of Saturday, November 5, 2016, from 5 till 9 p.m., the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley hosted its annual fall fundraiser, Cocktails & Collecting, now in its eleventh year. The stylish affair brings together those who create, those who collect, and those who support the Museum in its mission to inspire, inform, and engage.

Twenty-six regional artists plus the seven photographers included in the Museum’s new exhibition Allentown X 7: Photographic Explorations sold more than $22,000 worth of artwork, with ticket sales and 30 percent of the art sales going to help fund the Museum’s educational initiatives. For their part, the artists got to talk informally to attendees about their creative process and the impetus behind their work. One artist who is a year-after-year staple of the event, Barnaby Ruhe, painted portraits of bold and willing attendees in the Museum’s upstairs Crayola Classroom while the Lehigh University Jazz Combo played on in Art Ways Family Interactive Gallery under the direction of Dave Riekenberg. The evening featured an open bar and food on two floors courtesy of Catering by Karen Hunter. County Seat Spirits and the Hamilton Kitchen & Bar served up signature cocktails.
