MUSEUM SHOWCASES WORKS OF NOLAN P. BENNER JR. IN EXHIBITION AND SALE
Landscapes and Watercolors of the Lehigh Valley and Caribbean on display from April 21 through May 20, 2012

The Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley is honored to present a unique exhibition and sale of Nolan P. Benner, Jr. paintings.  Nolan P. Benner, Jr.: Landscape Paintings and Watercolors of the Lehigh Valley and the Caribbean will be on display from April 21, 2012 through May 20, 2012 in Trexler Hall.

Nolan P. Benner, Jr. (1922-1998) was best known for painting landscapes, with a bold and vibrant palette.  Born and raised in the Lehigh Valley, this locale remained a major source for Benner’s paintings throughout his life, although he also painted in New England, Bermuda, and throughout the Caribbean. Benner has also painted numerous figure paintings and portraits.  A student at the Baum School from 1952 - 1970, Benner paid homage to Walter Baum’s naturalistic style. He also structured his landscapes using precise geometric patterns and portrayed his scenes in unusual color combinations.

As a member of the Lehigh Art Alliance and Bethlehem Palette Club, Benner made a lifelong commitment to the local arts community.  Benner was a longtime supporter of the Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley.  Continuing his legacy, Barbara Benner has generously donated this collection of paintings and watercolors for sale to benefit the Museum.

“This exhibition is unique for the Museum because visitors have the opportunity to acquire works of art,” says Director of Development and Marketing, Elsbeth Haymon.  “Barbara Benner has donated this wonderful collection to the Museum and we are delighted to share these paintings with our members and the public.”  Beautiful landscapes of the Lehigh Valley, beach scenes from New Jersey and the Caribbean and some figure paintings will all be featured and available for sale.  The exhibition will take place in Trexler Hall in the Museum from April 21, 2012 through May 20, 2012.
