PAUL HARRYN’S ESSENCE OF NATURE COMES TO THE LEHIGH VALLEY

ALLENTOWN, Pa.—The Allentown Art Museum of the Lehigh Valley is thrilled to host artist Paul Harryn’s newest exhibition, Essence of Nature, starting January 19 and running through May 18, 2014.

Essence of Nature will be a multimedia experience, in tune with the multidimensional lives most of us live. It will include Harryn’s abstract works made over the past few decades, most of which have not been seen outside of private collections.

“My hope is that all visitors can enjoy the experience of discovery,” Harryn said.

For the past decade, Paul Harryn has lived and created at “Arcadia,” his rural studio near Easton and the Delaware River. Here, surrounded by nature, he has been able to focus on the development of his art: paintings, drawings, writings, films and original music scores.

Harryn’s career has spanned more than three decades. In addition to Arcadia, Harryn also creates art from studios in Venice and Santa Monica, California, and onsite in the Mojave Desert. There, in the undistracted beauty, his work takes its cues directly from nature.

“Wanting to do more than see [nature] from a pedestrian perspective, I made a conscious decision in 2000 to become completely immersed in the experience of nature on a daily basis,” Harryn said.

Harryn’s in-depth understanding of contemporary philosophical and aesthetic ideas allows him to pioneer new discoveries. Essence of Nature will include Harryn’s small-scale Seasons work along with drawings, sculpture, and the much larger 10-by-10-foot canvases from his Pacificus series in California, as well as original music compositions.

Harryn’s works have not been seen in a museum since 1993, when his one-person exhibition Signals and Cells was at The Berman Museum of Art in Ursinus, Pa.

“This will be my second museum exhibition and I believe this will be my favorite. Years of planning and work from an army of professionals have been invested in making this exhibition a success,” Harryn said.

The exhibition will occupy the Museum’s Scheller, Rodale, and Fowler Galleries. For more information visit allentownartmuseum.org.
