Hans Moller left his native Germany to settle permanently in the United States shortly before the beginning of World War II. Working initially as a graphic artist in New
York City, he also became immediately successful selling his paintings and exhibiting them to critical acclaim. Moller's painting style was influenced by Cubism,
Surrealism, and later, Abstract Expressionism. White Sand belongs to a series of abstract paintings he made in the 1950s that were inspired by the constant
demolition and construction he observed in his Manhattan neighborhood. In 1968 Moller moved to Allentown, Pennsylvania, where he continued to paint until his death
in 2000.
