After Jack Savitsky retired from his work in the coal mines of eastern Pennsylvania in 1959 he turned his hand to painting. He selected many of his subjects
from the area around him: miners, the railroad, rows of worker housing. Savitisky painted The Three Musketeers using his typical bright colors, dark
outlining, and dotted patterns. It portrays the artist (on the left) with two friends, Justin McCarthy and Sterling Strauser, also self-taught artists. |
