Go Bollywood on Third Thursday

4:50 p.m.
Documentary film: Cobra Gypsies
Filmmaker Raphael Treza traveled to northern India and lived among an ancient tribe known as the Kalbeliya for three months. Although many of them have never before met a foreigner prior to Treza’s arrival at their camps, the tribespeople (see featured image, above) seem unguarded in their enthusiasms to share their culture. Also showing tonight is a short film called Forest Man, about an Indian environmentalist who single-handedly planted an entire forest.

Indian flute music
Enjoy a classic Indian flute-and-mridangam (drums) recital in Kress Gallery, featuring the accomplished musicians Skandaprasad “Skanda” Rao and Prakash Rao.

    Skanda and Prakash

5:30–7 p.m.
Bollywood Party
Be a part of the first-ever Bollywood Party at the Allentown Art Museum! See the exhibition Indian Sculpture: Avatars of the Hindu Gods and then explore and celebrate the vibrant culture of India. There will be dance performances, music, and more!

Bollywood is not just one specific style of dance but a collage of many dance styles set to chart-topping songs. DJ Dharak will inspire an entourage of dancers during two performances; the first will present Bollywood dance interludes and the second will pull in the audience for a high energy interactive Bollywood dance session.

Also happening tonight at the Museum
