Allentown Art Museum is seeking an organized and highly motivated intern for the Membership and Development Internship for the Summer of 2021. This internship will produce research and reports which will assist and influence the Development Department in the areas of grants, donor relations, and membership, and will gain practical experience and skills in research, organization of data, and cultivation and stewardship of donors as well as crafting of materials such as letters, reports, and information about programs, exhibits, etc. Additionally, this intern will develop and refine marketing skills, in crafting of marketing and promotional materials to members and prospective members.

Throughout the internship, this student will conduct research, gather statistics, and organize data to use in the grant proposal and reporting process. This will provide the department with a model for ongoing support of programs, exhibitions, and initiatives. Additionally, this will contribute to the success of the department and the Museum by producing organized data that can be used when applying for grants and funding.

The Museum has a membership base of approximately 1,200 members and a goal to increase memberships across all levels and demographics, in particular to attract increased memberships from young professionals. The intern will provide research into successful models for membership programs with a particular focus on programs that target  Millennials, young benefactors, and young professionals. Research will include reviewing websites as well as printed information and contacting similar institutions to learn of their successes and challenges with the aim to develop ideas for our own membership program, activities, and promotional materials. The contribution to the department and to the Museum would be a program for increasing support from members in this age group which will help to sustain membership in the future and provide a vibrant member base.

Some evening and weekend hours may be required based on Museum events or programs.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate is collaborative, highly organized, and enthusiastic about art and culture. A positive attitude, and personable and gregarious nature are also a plus. This intern should also be personable and gregarious. Experience and/or coursework in electronic media, graphic design, social media, marketing, or PR are preferred but not required.

Compensation:

The Allentown Art Museum is proud to offer stipends to Interns accepted into the Summer 2021 program. Other benefits include a complimentary Student Membership which gives access to discounts at several local shops and eateries, as well as a discount at the Museum Store.

Stipends are provided at the end of the semester and are dependent upon the completion of the program. All travel will also be reimbursed based on the mandated 2021IRS rates.
