Position Title: Bilingual Museum Educator

Job Description:
The Allentown Art Museum is seeking an Educator who speaks both English and Spanish fluently. In collaboration with full-time staff, Educators facilitate programming for AAM’s diverse audiences, including pre-K-12 students, families, cultural and community organizations, and more. This position requires an energetic personality and passion for the arts. Individuals with experience working with young audiences, especially in educational settings will be given preference. Additionally, this role requires a creative, collaborative, and culturally sensitive person to support an engaging and inclusive museum experience.
Please note this position does not guarantee a minimum number of hours. Scheduling is facilitated through the Department Coordinator and the Signup Genius platform. Posted hours are available on a first-come first-serve basis. Notification of available hours will be sent via email from the Department Coordinator.
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate the Museum’s ArtVentures program, including
- Developing art-making projects
- Teaching projects and art techniques to visitors
- Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the classroom and Art Ways Interactive Family Gallery area
- Lead tours of the permanent collection and special exhibitions
- Work collaboratively to develop and facilitate other educational programming and partnerships including:
- Arte y Español
- CSC (Head Start) Partnership
- Field Trip Fridays
- Discover Arts
- Sensory Saturdays
- Art Can
- MLK Day
- Record pictures and videos of museum programming.
- Keep records of event attendance.
- Gather surveys and visitor feedback.
- Facilitate program set-up and clean-up.
- Maintain gallery and classroom rules for the safety of all visitors and museum collections.
- Prepare educational materials for project-based learning opportunities.
- Translate educational materials into Spanish.
- Assist in off-site programming, including classroom visits and community festivals.
- Coordinate with Museum staff, including Visitor Services, Security, Marketing, etc., to ensure the success of public programming.
Qualifications:
- Bilingual, Spanish and English speaking
- High-school diploma or equivalent
- Must have weekend availability
- Previous experience working in the arts or with young audiences is preferred, particularly in an educational or nonprofit setting
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic computer skills
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Collaborative and optimistic spirit
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
- Flexibility to work occasional evenings for program events and activities
