11th Annual Hope & Healing Juried Art Show for High School and College Students

March 5 through May 16, 2021
Community Gallery

Students create inspirational original art and donate it to the annual art show sponsored by Healing Through The Arts. Healthcare professionals can select works of art, at no charge, for their hospital or healing facility to inspire patients and caregivers. Art is to be placed where people spend time waiting, such as patient rooms or treatment areas. The art can provide a “window” of hope where an outside view of nature is not possible. These students created art to provide hope to others, at the same time finding hope themselves.

Vote for Your Favorite

While viewing this show in the Community Gallery, you can text-to-vote for your favorite, most inspiring piece, and that student will win the Viewer’s Choice Community Award and $100. Help us honor another student’s original art donation for healing in healthcare.

Just a few of the artworks in this year’s Show:

Searching for Hope (acrylic)

Meghan Hutter, Whitehall-Coplay High School
Healing Through the Arts Community Award

Artist statement: “The sky in the picture shows a colorful sunset, which to me represents one of the most beautiful things on earth. Along with that, the butterflies flying from the glowing hands show the endless possibilities that can be unlocked with just a little bit of hope.”

Cat Nap (acrylic)

Lila Shokr, Northampton Community College

Artist statement: “One can find healing through the simplest things, even just napping in the sunlight coming from a window can bring you closer to nature while still being indoors. Cats appreciate this activity to its fullest. I wanted to depict the dappled sunlight of an afternoon, while the Calico cat represents good luck.”

Lighthouse (quilled paper)

Olivia King, Kutztown University
2nd Place

Artist statement: “My piece was created in memoriam of my grandfather, who would spend mornings watching the ocean with me on our summer vacations. I invite the viewer to find a moment of serenity and stillness among the waves. Much like the tide comes in and out, so do life’s tribulations.”
