Discover Art brings all fourth-graders in the ASD to the Museum twice during the academic year, serving nearly 3,000 students per year. For many, it is their first visit to a museum.

The emphasis is on creativity and fundamental art proficiencies and encourages inquiry, experimentation, collaboration, and discussion, integrating the arts with the sciences and humanities.

Each nearly two hour visit includes an in-depth exploration of artworks from the Museum’s permanent collection and temporary exhibitions, and activities that teach 21st century skills.

They encourage academic excellence but also introduce students to the roles that museums play in expressing and preserving cultural heritage and the importance of visual literacy and visual thinking.
