Alx Merriman, Moment, acrylic on canvas, painted 2015.

Alex Merriman is a Gestural and Color Field Painter. Originally from Johnstown, PA, he moved around the country until landing in East Bangor, Pennsylvania, in 2018 after finishing school and a post-grad internship.

He studied Studio Art under Professor Ed Kerns at Lafayette College. Ed Kerns worked and studied under greats like Grace Hartigan and Willem de Kooning. During his time at Lafayette, he discovered painting. He began with realistic expression (landscapes, attempts at portraiture, etc.) That changed his junior year with a semester-long project to transform a traditional landscape into an abstract one. This experience ultimately changed how he viewed painting and shaped his future catalog.

He enjoys collaborating with other artists and using art as a way to support great causes. In 2023, 2024, and 2025, he has raised just under $10,000 for cancer research organizations through his Colors for Cancer Art Exhibit.
