This ongoing exhibition celebrates the diverse perspectives artists have brought to the medium of photography, featuring varied works from the Museum’s holdings.

Robert Doisneau (French, 1912–1994), Ouvriers preparant la chaine (Loom workers preparing the chain), c. 1950, gelatin silver print. Gift of Sarit Rozycki and Robert Cromwell, 2017.

The newest installation, Textiles on Film, explores the visual qualities of textiles through composition, light, and texture, while also attesting to its important role in self-expression through clothing and adornment. This selection of photographs embraces the ingenuity, resilience, and creative spirit of textiles through still lifes, fashion, and portraits of makers by artists such as Danny Lyon, Robert Doisneau, and Garry Winogrand, as well as Pennsylvania-based photographers Judith Taylor and Charlee Mae Brodsky. Subjects range from the stages of wool production to candid street photography to abstract fabric studies and from the quiet, intimate sphere of household mending to the fast-paced, industrial side of textile manufacture.

Upcoming: a new selection of photographs will open in Fuller Gallery on September 12, 2026.

Selections from the Photography Collection is supported through the generosity of The Bernard and Audrey Berman Foundation and the Leon C. and June W. Holt Endowment.
