MCleotilde Álvarez was born and raised in Santo Domingo, the Dominican Republic. In 1998, she moved back to New York City to obtain her Associate Degree in Liberal Arts at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC). In 2003, her interest in painting brought out her talent during the 2020 pandemic, when she self-taught an abstract technique. In June 2023, she had her first solo exhibition, named “Garden with the Blue and Sky,” at the New York Public Library.
In 2003, she showed writing talent when she emerged as a writer by participating in a study abroad in Asturias, Spain. During that summer at the University of Oviedo, two of her short stories were selected for publication, “Sambrana” and “Camino a la Planta,” in the college magazine at BMCC.
In 2006, she pursued her Bachelor’s Degree at Hunter College of The City of New York (CUNY), and in 2014, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Liberal Arts from Teachers College, Columbia University. In 2016, she won an award for her scientific writing from the National Cancer Institute (NCI), supported by Columbia University and the Institute for Health Research Promotion at the University of Texas in San Antonio.
Nowadays, in April 2025, she had her first published book, “The Seven Puddles” on Amazon.
