The Allentown Art Museum continues its celebration of Faith Ringgold’s Tar Beach 2 with a series of programs and tours for all ages beginning June 2026. The large story quilt is on loan from the Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia and viewable in Allentown Thursday-Sunday 11 a.m.-4 p.m. In addition, the artist’s beloved children’s book, Tar Beach, is available for purchase online and in the Museum Store. Admission, parking, and all programs and tours are free.

This program promotes Spanish-language literacy and art-appreciation skills to English- and Spanish-speaking children Pre-K through 3rd grade. Each hour-long session includes an immersive book reading in Spanish, artmaking, and a free Spanish-language book for each child to take home. The featured artwork this month is Tar Beach 2.

Families are invited to celebrate Juneteenth by creating art inspired by freedom, resilience, and joy–themes that run through the work of Faith Ringgold. Tar Beach 2 will be one of stops on a guided tour of our American galleries that includes a conversation about history, identity, and the ongoing pursuit of equity. The tour begins at 2 p.m.; no reservation necessary, just drop in.
