Nature’s Palette is a summer workshop series aimed to inspire in participants a deeper connection to art and nature. Every workshop will begin with a foraging excursion led by an expert forager and teaching artist. During the foraging excursion, participants will be educated on the native ecology of the region and best foraging practices. This program offers a unique experience for visitors looking to explore different forms of artmaking and discovering nature in their local community.
For the first half of the workshop, participants will meet at a local park in Allentown (directions to the park will be included in your confirmation email). At the park, participants will be guided through a 5-minute mindfulness session to kick off the foraging excursion. Foraging expert Rain Black will lead and teach participants about the native ecology of the region while foraging for flowers. Participants will have opportunities to sketch, write, and take notes during the excursion while building community with other foragers.
Upon returning to the Museum, educators will teach participants how to create suncatchers using their foraged materials. Educators will assist participants in drying their flowers using an iron. They will arrange their flowers on their suncatchers and glue them down before assembling the suncatcher. Once assembled, participants can add other elements such as glass beads. Participants will conclude with a work of art to take home.
