Just in time for summer, the Allentown Art Museum is pleased to offer outdoor lovers a free guide to help them create art from nature. Whether you’re a seasoned hiker or simply exploring a nearby park for an hour, the Museum’s Beginner’s Guide to Foraging will give you tips on how to collect natural materials and transform them into works of art. There are four different art projects you can try: Papermaking, Watercolor, Fabric Dying, and Anthotype Printmaking. Download the guide HERE (in English) or AQUÍ (en Español) and engage with the natural world in a thoughtful, creative way!

The Museum has partnered with the Allentown City Parks and Recreation Department to make the Guide available to urban adventurers visiting two of Allentown’s most beautiful green spaces: Cedar Beach Park (2600 Parkway Boulevard, Allentown) and Lehigh Parkway East. Signs along the walkways in both English and Spanish encourage park visitors to think of making art and include a QR code that can be used to access the Guide right there.

The Guide was developed as part of the Museum’s “Nature’s Palette” program, which launched last summer in conjunction with the exhibition Scarlet Poppies and Ultramarine Butterflies: The Language of Color to foster an appreciation for the vibrant world of color that surrounds us.

“Nature’s Palette” is being offered again this summer, for those who would like guidance from an experienced forager in creating art from nature. The workshops are being held on the first and third Saturdays in June and July and include instruction on making Suncatchers, Watercolors, and Hammer Dyeing. Learn more and get your tickets HERE.
