The Art Museum is the place to be on opening day of our groovy new exhibition Fashion as Experiment: The ’60s. Be part of the celebration on Saturday, May 6, when you can take part in free guided tours of the exhibition, tie-dying fun in the sun, and a new Fashion Maker Station in Art Ways Interactive Family Gallery. Bring the kids and your friends to revel together in a free day of funky fashion, fun, and creativity.

10–11 a.m.: Member-only preview hour
Beat the crowd and experience the exhibition up close and personal in all its groovy glory. Not a member? Join HERE.

noon–3:30 p.m.: Fashion Maker Station opens in Art Ways
Drape and arrange fabric swatches, accessories, and garments on mannequins; help design a paper dress inspired by iconic ’60s fashions; and get tactile with a variety of textured fabrics on our Art Ways Sensory Wall. For all ages!

11:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Guided tour of Fashion as Experiment: The ’60s
The curator of the exhibition, Claire McRee, will lead a tour to point out some highlights and answer all your questions about 1960s fashion.

noon–3 p.m.: Summer Upcycling Kick-Off*: Tie-Dye
This is the first in a series of upcycling workshops that the Museum will be hosting throughout the summer. Join us out on the Museum lawn this afternoon to learn the art of tie-dye! Bring your old clothes or thrift-store finds, or we can provide you with a garment to transform into that iconic Sixties fashion statement.

2:30–3:30 p.m.: Guided tour of Fashion as Experiment: The ’60s
A Museum docent will lead a highlights tour through the exhibition.

Opening weekend continues on Sunday, May 7, with access to the exhibition and the Fashion Maker Station in Art Ways Interactive Family Gallery, located just up the ramp from the Fashion exhibition.

Admission to the Museum and all exhibitions is Free for All, Always, thanks to our generous sponsors. Visitor parking is free in the Museum lot at Fifth and Linden Streets.
