The Art Museum’s summer 2017 exhibition (June 25-September 3, 2017) was so large and diverse that a little background adds to the enjoyment.

A Collecting Spirit featured 150 pieces generously donated over the last twenty years by Philadelphia resident Paul Kania, who is guided in his collecting by a belief in art’s aesthetic, emotional, and spiritual valueand the importance of sharing it. Included in the exhibition, installed over four galleries, were works by thirty artists: Georges Rouault; Thomas Lias; Clare Leighton; Stanley William Hayter, including some of his copper plates; and contemporary lithographs from the renowned Tamarind Institute by David Row, Daniel Brice, and Linn Meyers; and more.
