Position Title: Community Activation Coordinator
Supervisor: Director of Education and Public Engagement
Classification: Part time (20-25 hours per week), $20 per hour
Job Description:
The Community Activation Coordinator will work closely with members of the Museum staff as well as the communities that we serve and community partners to research issues that impact the Lehigh Valley and develop responsive, high-quality programs that foster engagement and authentic connections with the community. The individual in this role, along with members of the Education and Public Engagement team and other key Museum staff, will provide strategic direction for the creation and enhancement of dynamic programming and opportunities that prioritize diverse community participation and inclusive, interactive programming.
The individual in this position will also play a key role in developing and facilitating the AAM Social Action Framework. Working together as a team, this position and department will work to build bridges and provide positive impact as a welcoming resource in the downtown Allentown neighborhood and surrounding communities.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Research current needs and gaps in service for growth and new engagement in the Allentown and greater Lehigh Valley community within the scope of the Museum’s mission
- Represent AAM at community events, on community boards, and to government and non-profit officials to identify opportunities, services, and collaborations that will benefit the community
- Serve as a primary point of contact for community members
- In collaboration with the Education and Public Engagement team, develop and implement AAM’s Social Action Framework, which acts as a strategic plan for how the Museum will cultivate social action with the Museum’s mission.
- Work with the Museum’s president and CEO to develop a Board of Trustees Community Committee to facilitate strategic planning in relation to community building around the arts.
- Facilitate relationship building and partnership opportunities with the Lenape tribe.
- Oversee language accessibility and translation service coordination for the department.
Additional Responsibilities
- Oversee and collaborate with department and other Museum personnel to create programming initiatives and opportunities that:
- Break down barriers of involvement and enhance the Museum’s community impact and outreach
- Connect with a broad range of stakeholders including children, teens, families, adults, and the community at large
- Advocate for and engage audiences through a variety of different formats and platforms
- Coordinate Community Engagement programs, including contracting artists, instructors, lecturers, speakers, performers, etc.; set program goals; manage all related programming activities; work with marketing department on initiatives; conduct outreach for attendees.
- Maintain the budget for key programs and develop future budget resources.
- Record retention for programing including attendance, feedback, program impact records through software
- Manage grants and awards for key programs with the grants manager
Competencies and Skills
- Bilingual: Spanish and English speaking required
- Bachelor’s Degree in studies related to Community Engagement and Outreach, Museum Studies, Social Services, Humanities, Communications, and/or Cultural and Social Sciences is preferred but not required. Related experience in the above-mentioned field(s) is necessary
- Compelling communicator with experience in social advocacy, diverse audience building, and community service
- Passion for community building and relevant experience in programming that centers around equity, inclusion, and accessibility
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Available to work evenings and weekends as needed
- Working knowledge with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Publisher, PowerPoint)
