Summer 2022 Arts Crawl Tour Guide description
Allentown Art Museum is seeking two energetic and enthusiastic individuals for the limited part-time position of the Arts Crawl Tour Guide. This is the second year this program has run in conjunction with Downtown’s Third Thursday and City Center’s Rock the Walk event. Arts Crawl Guides will lead one tour on the Third Thursday of each month, which focuses on public art in the downtown area and includes stops at a few local eateries and/or galleries for a drinks and appetizers. This position will run from May to September.

Museum Description
Founded in 1934 and incorporated in 1939, the Allentown Art Museum (AAM) is the premier public visual arts facility in northeastern PA. The Museum strives to be an inclusive regional resource that uses arts and culture as a catalyst to drive interaction, education, experimentation, and social change by offering exhibitions and programs that inspire, teach, transform, and engage our Valley – one person, one idea at a time. Our vision is to stimulate the active exploration of the arts and provide access, education, and engagement. Our goals include developing innovative programs to ensure that we can listen, respond to, and serve our community effectively. The Museum maintains a collection of 20,000 works of art in a 54,000+ sq. ft. facility, enjoying 60,000 – 70,000 visitors annually.


Qualifications
The successful candidate will display an outgoing and energetic personality, as well as enthusiasm for the arts. Individuals with experience in public speaking and/or arts education will be given special consideration. The Arts Crawl will be held monthly on the 3rd Thursday, May – September, with tours starting at 5:30 and 6:30pm. Evening availability on these dates is required. Tours last approximately 2 hours.  Training will also be required prior to the 3rd Thursday in May.

Finally, this individual will work with the Museum’s diverse audiences and therefore must possesses knowledge, sensitivity, and understanding of the social, political, personal, and cross-cultural needs of participants.

Tours begin at AAM and conclude at the Allentown Market and cover several blocks. Guides must be able to safely navigate and lead a group of up to 25 through the downtown area.

Fluency in Spanish is a plus, but not required.

Compensation
This position is stipend paid. Guides will receive $500 in May at the start of the Arts Crawl season, and $500 in September following the final tour.
