The Allentown Art Museum and the Central Elementary STREAM Academy are partnering during the 2025-25 school year to offer arts-integration programming to ASD students and staff. Students in grades 3, 4, and 5 will visit the Museum twice during the year for 90-minute field trips. The Museum also will offer afterschool workshops for families and micro professional development sessions for teachers, and will present an exhibition of student art in the AAM Community Gallery from April 24 through May 8, 2025.
STREAM Field Trips will explore the following themes using art:
Art & Science (3rd Grade)
Through gallery exploration, students will consider how artists often think as scientists to achieve their vision. The visit will culminate in a sculpture project where students use mixed-media objects to create an artwork using color, balance, symmetry, gravity, and nature.
Art, Color, Pattern & Form (4th Grade)
During a 45-minute tour students will investigate how artists use measurement, patterns, repetition, and measurement in the process of art making. Each class then will create their printed tapestries using symmetry, pattern, and repetition.
Art of the Americas & Capturing History (5th Grade)
With a focus on culture and creativity, this 45-minute tour will explore the history of the United States and Central and South America. The Museum’s American galleries tell the story of identity, heritage, tradition, and geography highlighting the cross-cultural influences on the visual arts. The visit will culminate in a collage landscape project inspired by the Lehigh Valley.
Arts Integration Micro PD Sessions
Throughout the year, AAM will present 30-minute arts integration session to teachers across subject areas. AAM’s education team also will develop a STREAM lessons and activities to accompany these programs and field trips.
